Medals
Gallantry medals are generally awarded for specific acts of bravery performed by an individual.Campaign medals are awarded for participating in a particular sphere, campaign or other similar geographic region. They are a country’s recognition of the services rendered by the recipient’s presence in the appropriate area. All the campaign medals have qualification requirements, such as achieving a number of days in the relevant area and attachment to certain units.
While campaign medals are not awarded for acts of gallantry, it should be remembered that some of these campaign medals (especially World War I medals) commemorate service in some of the bloodiest battles ever fought by UK and Commonwealth forces.Copyright
