Pre-Lim Surface Cleaner

 
Pre Lim_1Pre-Lim, short for preliminary, is a gently abrasive paste designed for non-scratch cleaning, stain removal and freshening of many surfaces especially metals, enamels and many sensitive fine-art surfaces.

Pre-Lim is widely used in the professional restoration of arms and armour, sculpture, brass and copper exhibition cookware, ceramics and automobile paintwork. In addition it can be used for china, feathering repairs to ceramics, airbrushed glazed surfaces and creates a fantastic "brushed finish" for metals (i.e. knife blades). Pre-Lim produces a brilliant silky, smooth finish.

Formulation is based on blended Neuburg silica chalks in a water/white spirit emulsion. In normal use the product is not a health hazard and is non-flammable. Protective clothing is not required.

The cleaning/burnishing action of Pre-Lim is achieved with extremely fine control using a soft rag and light pressure. After a few minutes of air-drying, the residual chalky deposit is easily rubbed away with a clean soft cloth, leaving surfaces dry and silk-smooth.

To ensure that cleaned surfaces, especially metals, remain clean and bright, protect them with our glass-clear Renaissance microcrystalline wax polish for a long-lasting and visually enhancing finish.

Shelf life is excellent when the product is stored in its air-tight container at normal room temperature or colder. A small amount of white spirit and water (blended into an emulsion by adding a drop or 2 of liquid soap) can be stirred into the product to revive it.

As is customary in professional restoration, a discreet test is advised to ensure that Pre-Lim is suitable for specific projects.

Applications
  • You should use with care an abrasive on 'noble' metals like gold or silver because the abrasives will remove valuable material.
  • Pre-Lim is excellent on all metals requiring a light cleaning of tarnish or minor corrosion.
  • Dirty metals should be cleaned with liquid products such as Vulpex soap, possibly with a final clean by jewellers rouge. Renaissance wax will impart a fine lustre and protect from finger marks, personal acidity, abrasion etc.
